What Cloudflare Launched
On July 13, 2026, Cloudflare introduced Precursor, a client-side, session-based verification system that uses injected JavaScript to collect behavioral signals continuously and feed them into Cloudflare's bot protection in real time.
Cloudflare frames the launch against the scale it already sees: over 1 trillion requests per day across more than 20% of the web, with Turnstile running nearly 3 billion times per day on sensitive endpoints.
Why This Tooling Shift Matters
Point-in-time checks are no longer enough once automated browsers can execute JavaScript, use real browser environments, and pass isolated CAPTCHAs. The problem shifts from blocking obvious bots to classifying behavior over time.
That is a tooling problem, not only a model problem. Someone has to decide which agents get to act like users, which get throttled, and which get blocked entirely.
Why Full-Journey Detection Matters For Zero-Human Systems
Autonomous companies will both send and receive agent traffic. They will run their own agents across partner sites while defending their own properties from spammy, extractive, or abusive automation.
Precursor is useful because it assumes that agentic traffic is normal enough to deserve a dedicated operating layer. That is a stronger signal than yet another CAPTCHA tweak.
The Take
Precursor suggests that the perimeter for zero-human companies is changing. Security teams now need to classify autonomous behavior with the same seriousness that ops teams classify infrastructure traffic.
As agent usage rises, full-session validation will look less like an edge case and more like standard operating infrastructure.
